Thelma Jane Turner Lewis Hillhouse

Mrs. Thelma Jane “Janie” Turner Lewis Hillhouse, 94, of Yazoo City, MS passed away November 10, 2020 at Hospice Ministries, Inc., Ridgeland, MS. She was born on June 5, 1926 in McCool, MS to Erthie Ester “Doc” and Thelma Wheeler Turner. She grew up and attended school in Kosciusko, MS.
She was a member of Cleary Baptist Church, and she loved the Lord above all. His love filled her heart and this love is her legacy. She loved her children and grandchildren unconditionally and was known as Mama, Mamaw, Memaw and even Grandma by some. She loved life and was loved by all who knew her. She loved to travel in her 5th wheel camper, she loved gardening, and would have to cook for anyone who happened to show up at her door. She was active in her church and a member of the Eastern Star. She was employed as a receptionist for over 20 years with Bailey Mortgage Company and retired from Canton Exchange Bank in a similar position which exemplified her love of people.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 55 years, Lloyd E. Lewis, Jr., her infant son James Clinton Lewis and her brother, J.C. Turner of Pascagoula.
She is survived by her husband Alvis L. Hillhouse of Franklin, TN., son William I. “Buddy” Lewis (Paulette) Hattiesburg, MS, daughter Barbara Lewis Brister (Steve) of Yazoo City, MS, four grandsons retired Col William I. “Bubba” Lewis, Jr. (Joy) of Stafford, Virginia, Lloyd Patrick Lewis (Michelle) of Meridian, MS, Dr. Steven Lloyd Brister (Julie) of Tupelo, MS, William Thomas Brister (Shannon) of Madison, MS, twelve great grandchildren, brother Henry Wheeler Turner (Martha) of Vancleave, MS and Many loving nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank the Baptist Memorial Hospital in Yazoo City, MS and Hospice Ministries, INC., Ridgeland, MS for their care in making her final days loving and peaceful.
Due to Covid-19 and safety concerns the Family will hold a private service at Wright and Ferguson Funeral Home.
In Lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 207 W Jackson St #1, Ridgeland, MS 39157.
