Steve Sturdivant

Steven Lloyd Sturdivant, 62, of the Ross Barnett Reservoir area, passed into eternity with his Lord and Savior February 20, 2020. Visitation will be Sunday, February 23, 2020 at Wright and Ferguson Funeral Home: 114 Burney Drive, Flowood, MS 39232 from 2:00-4:00 pm. A memorial service will be held immediately following in the chapel. Steve loved his Mississippi State Bulldogs, so the family invites you to wear maroon and/or bring your cowbell to honor Steve with us on Sunday.

Steve was born September 30, 1957 in Hattiesburg, MS. He graduated from Pearl High School in 1978 and earned a Drafting and Design Technology degree from Hinds Junior College in 1982. Steve has been a fighter his entire life. Through health issues, disability and many other difficulties, he persevered and never complained. His determination and tenacity was an inspiration to all who knew him. His smile and kind spirit was evident everywhere he went. Steve was a shining example of living a Christ-like life. He loved deeply, put others before himself, worked tirelessly, and pushed through difficulties without complaint.

For over 20 years Steve worked diligently as a Criminal Record Technician III in the Driver Record Department for the Mississippi Department of Public Safety. Prior to his career with DPS, he, along with his brothers, owned and operated Lake Harbor Trading Post where he was beloved by the community. He was a member of the Immanuel Singers at Christ United Methodist Church where he earned the nickname “Hit Man.”

Steve is survived by his parents, Ann and Adrian Sturdivant. He is also survived by a sister, Alyssa Jackson and her husband Mike; brother, Ryan Sturdivant and his wife Kristy. Nieces and nephews, Ally Farmer, Brayden Farmer, Blake Jackson, Brayden Jackson, Nash Sturdivant, and Beckham Sturdivant. He is also survived by his wife Tammy Loper; stepdaughter Teresa Loper Drinkard; 3 grandchildren and a myriad of extended family and friends.

Steve is preceded in death by his grandparents, Lloyd and Ruby McGehee, John and Gertrude Sturdivant, brother, Greg Sturdivant, and brother-in-law, Paul Farmer.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests in Steve’s memory for donations be made to L.I.F.E. of Mississippi, whose purpose is to assist in the empowerment of people with disabilities to be as independent and as fully involved in their communities as they choose to be.
