Frances Bibb Raley

Mrs. Frances Bibb Raley went to be with her Lord on February 7, 2020. She was 92 years old.
Frances Bibb Raley was born in Moorhead, MS on June 11, 1927 and was raised in Drew, MS. She attended Clark College in Newton, MS before transferring to Mississippi College in Clinton, where she graduated in 1949 with a B.A. in sociology. Her first exposure to missions was in 1948, when she served as a summer missionary in Hawaii. At Southwestern Baptist Seminary in Fort Worth, TX, she met Harry L. Raley of Bethune, SC. They were married in 1951. The Raleys served in churches in North and South Carolina before being appointed to Taiwan under the Foreign Mission Board of the Southern Baptist Convention.
Their work in Taiwan spanned the years 1955 to 1991, and involved many areas of Mandarin Chinese ministry. Mrs. Raley’s primary work involved developing and growing churches, even as she was raising her family. She worked with Taiwanese women, taught English Bible classes, and mentored generations of younger missionaries over the years. It was not long after their retirement in 1991 that the Raleys returned to Taiwan for six months, to serve the Grace Baptist Church English congregation. This was followed by two summers working among Chinese congregations in Fairbanks, Alaska. When they finally settled down in Jackson, they did not stop their ministry, volunteering on a continuing basis in the Chinese Christian Church of Greater Jackson, MS.
Frances Raley will be remembered for her abiding faith, her warm hospitality, her quick wit, her deep love of family, and her passionate commitment to the missionary task. She won the hearts and respect of all who knew her.
She was preceded in death by Harry, her beloved husband of 61 years; her parents S.D. Bibb and Helen Jennings Bibb; and her siblings Earl Bibb, Marvin Bibb, Margaret Knight, Laura Nell West, and Cathyrn Craft. She is survived by her brother Ed Bibb, son Harry L. Raley Jr. (Lynn) and his wife Rachel Heard of Jackson, MS; son Bruce Raley and his wife Maureen Valenza Raley of Houston, TX; son David Raley and his wife Frances Usrey Raley of Benton, AR; daughter Beth Raley Harris and her husband Scott Harris of Brentwood, TN; her grandchildren Gillian Raley; Johney, Troy, and Lane Hopkins; Elizabeth and Jonathan Harris; and four great grandchildren.
Visitation will be held on Monday, February 10 from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. at Alta Woods Baptist Church, 168 Colonial Dr. Jackson, MS 39204. The funeral service will follow at 11:00. Burial will take place at 2:00 p.m. at Lakewood Memorial Park in Clinton.
