E. E. "Ed" Gamble, Sr.

E. E. "Ed" Gamble, 98, passed away at home on January 1, 2019. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, January 4, 2019 at First Baptist Church in Jackson with visitation beginning at 1 p.m. A graveside service will follow at Lakewood Memorial Park in Jackson.

Ed was born September 16, 1920 in Homer, LA to William and Iva Frazier Gamble. He was the oldest of five children. Proud members of the Greatest Generation, Ed and his four siblings persevered through the Great Depression and World War II in which he and two of his brothers served honorably. After the war Ed joined South Central Bell where he convinced management of the value of public relations. He became the point man for promoting the telephone company around the state and beyond, retiring after 32 years of service.

Ever a contributor, Ed was a member of many civic and service organizations including the Telephone Pioneers of America, the Masons (32nd degree), the Shriners, the Civitan Club, Keep Jackson Beautiful and the Avenue of Magnolias, which is responsible for planting the beautiful magnolia trees that grace the entrances of our state.

Ed loved meeting all types of people and treated everyone the same. He was gifted with a magical personality, if you met him once you remembered him and he you. He loved to dance, enjoyed the outdoors and could build or work on most anything.

Ed was a longtime member of First Baptist Church of Jackson which he dearly loved and a member of the Chapel Bible Class. He faithfully attended church until his health prevented him from doing so.

Ed was preceded in death by his wife, Wanda W. Gamble; brothers, Max Gamble, Frazier Gamble and Lincoln Gamble.

He is survived by his most precious Sarah Jacobs Woodrow; his sister, Mary Womack of Shreveport, LA; his son, Eric Gamble (Joy); his granddaughter, Stephanie Moore (Corey); his great grandchildren, Zachary Owens, Dane Moore and Lyla Kate Moore; and by numerous beloved nieces and nephews and their families.
