I am a Veteran.JACOB HOLIDAY

Jacob Holiday

Jacob Hall Holiday of Clinton, Mississippi passed away on September 6 at the age of 26 at the University of Mississippi Medical Center.

Jacob was a walking encyclopedia born on August 10, 1995, to Sonny and Janet Holiday of Clinton, Mississippi. He graduated high school from Mt. Salus Christian School, then went on to study Biology at Hinds Community College. From there, he attended the University of Southern Mississippi and in 2018, he received his Bachelor’s in Interdisciplinary Studies with concentrations in Botany and Criminal Justice. He began working at Nissan as a robotics technician, then transitioned to working at Mid-State Firearms in Clinton, Mississippi, which he repeatedly defined as his ultimate dream job.

Jacob has a wide list of accomplishments. On March 4, 2013, he attained the rank of Eagle Scout. The rank is the highest level one can achieve in Scouting. Through his journey in Scouting, he received a total of 37 merit badges. He had a lifelong goal of serving in the United States Armed Forces, and served from 2015 to August 10, 2021 as a crew chief in a medical evacuation helicopter unit. He served one of these years in Afghanistan. However, through his accomplishments and many interests, Jacob finally was able to find one thing he could focus on above all else: Casey Mansur. Jacob promptly married Casey on June 30, 2018 and would readily say marrying her was his greatest accomplishment.

Rather than listing the extensive range of interests pursued by Jacob, it would be easier to state that there were few things he did not have interest in or have extensive knowledge of. Jacob was an inquisitive soul (and verified know-it-all) who constantly bounced from hobby to hobby, pouring in endless hours of research and practice into each venture. If you needed a lock unpicked, a pizza-cutting robot constructed, a wooden chair built, a plant grown, a yurt built, a car repaired, a helicopter repaired, information on any gun, information on what flashlight to buy, a sewer system inspected, or a bartender, Jacob was your man. If he didn’t possess ready knowledge at the time, give him a day and an internet connection, and he would be able to tell you more than you’d even like to know about the subject.

Many would likely say that Jacob could talk endlessly, but he also possessed an incredible and devoted ability to listen, remember, and understand. He would notice if you got a new haircut, or new shoes, or if you looked a little sad that day. If you did, you would experience what may have been one of his best skills—the bearlike, bone-crushing Jacob Hug. Jacob was a seeker of knowledge, and this most importantly included knowledge of those he loved, as he would seek to understand anyone and everyone in a way that nobody else could. The depth of his knowledge of his hobbies and interests was nothing in comparison to the depth of his love for his friends and family. If there was something to experience, he wanted to experience it—particularly with those he loved. He was loyal and stubborn, and you always knew he was behind you 100[[][%]], come hell or high water.

Jacob is survived by his wife, Casey Holiday, their two dogs, Henry and Panda, and god-dog Jaybird; his parents, Sonny and Janet; his sister Emily and brother Hunter; his nieces Kali and Ava James and nephew Brock; his stalwart friends Sam Gearhart and Callie Tullos, and a slew of many close friends too numerous to count, as Jacob made lasting relationships with everyone he interacted with.

Jacob’s memorial service will be held Saturday, September 11 at Wright and Ferguson Funeral Home in Clinton, Mississippi. He will be laid to rest at Lakewood Cemetery in Jackson, MS.

“If you need ANTYHING, you call. I’ll drive through a storm if need be. Promise me you’ll call.”—Jacob Holiday
