Thomas Jennings Graham, Jr.

Thomas Jennings Graham, Jr., 86, of Madison died Wednesday, Nov. 21 2018 at Sunnybrook Estates in Madison. Cliff Hardin will officiate, with burial following at Parkway Memorial Cemetery, 1161 Highland Colony Parkway.

Mr. Graham was born November 3, 1932 in Brandon, the son of Thomas Graham Sr. and Myrtis Humble Graham, both of whom preceded him in death. Also preceding him in death were a brother, Ivy Graham and three sisters: Lenora Presley, Mildred McGraw and Sandra Wilson. Survivors include Jo Harris Graham, his sweetheart and wife of 63 years; two sons, Mark Graham (Tammy); Joseph Graham (Kelly); and granddaughter Jennings Lister (Thomas), all of Madison. He left behind sisters-in-law Flo Turbeville, Elaine Kelly (Bob) and Alice Harris; brothers-in-law Buster Harris and Mack Harris; many beloved nieces and nephews.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps, with service in the Korean Conflict. He also served on the U.S.S. Marquette during a 1952 expedition in the Mediterranean Sea. For most of his career, Mr. Graham was employed by the U.S. Postal Service, including a stint as Postmaster of the Madison Post Office, until his retirement in 1987.

Mr. and Mrs. Graham joined Broadmoor Baptist Church in the early 1960's, where Thomas was ordained as a Deacon in 2001. He served as a second- and third-grade Sunday School teacher for many years, and served as a Chapel greeter in the Hospitality Ministry. He also served as a volunteer with WOW! Week (Broadmoor's Vacation Bible School) and made many lifelong friends.

After retiring, the couple enjoyed traveling through the western U.S., with some of their favorite destinations being Death Valley, Calif., Estes Park, Colo., and Williams, Ariz. Their travels took them to 40 states, as well as Canada and Mexico.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Broadmoor Missions (www.broadmoor.org/go) or the American Lung Association of Mississippi (www.lung.org).

The family would like to thank the staff at Sunnybrook Estates and Sta-Home Hospice for their loving care and support.
