Willie Thompson, 58, died Friday, February 27, 2015. Visitation will be held on Sunday from 2 to 5 pm at Wright and Ferguson in Clinton. Funeral services will be on Monday at 10:00 am in the Chapel of Wright and Ferguson. Burial will follow at 1:00 PM in White Oak Baptist Church Cemetery near Philadelphia, MS.
Willie was born in Canton, MS on August 21, 1956 and raised in Jackson where he graduated from Mississippi Baptist High School. After graduating from Belhaven University and Mississippi College, Willie started a 37 year career with the State of Mississippi working as an accountant with the Department of Audit, the Department of Revenue, the Department of Economic Development and the Department of Wildlife and Fisheries before retiring, in 2014, from the Department of Health. He was an avid sports card collector and a very enthusiastic participant in fantasy sports. He was a member of the Church of God and a lover of all animals. He was a great father who supported his children in every endeavor that they attempted. Despite his gruff exterior, he made friends quickly and was always ready to lend a helping hand to someone in need.
He was preceded in death by his father, Willie Ruford Thompson, Sr. and his grandmother, Virgie Kea. Survivors include his mother, Faye Kea Thompson; his daughter, Jessica Thompson Maily (Cory); his son, Matt Thompson; his sister, Linda Thompson Sligh (Johnny); and one niece and two nephews and by his faithful companion of 10 years Rascal.
