William Louis "Whit" Whitten

June 28, 1949 – March 26, 2026

William Louis "Whit" Whitten, age 76, passed away peacefully on Thursday morning, March 26, 2026, at his home in Ridgeland, Mississippi. He was born on June 28, 1949, in Columbus, Mississippi, to the late Preston and Helen Whitten.

In addition to his parents, Whit was preceded in death by his grandson, Carson Alan Partridge, and his nephew, Captain Daniel Preston Whitten.

He is lovingly survived by his devoted wife of 56 years, Gaye Elaine Whitten; his daughters, Kimberly Whitten Partridge and Ashley Whitten Byrd (Ben); and his cherished grandchildren, Taylor Marie Byrd, Casey Laine Partridge, William Tate Byrd, Christopher Kage Partridge, and Benjamin Tallon Byrd. He is also survived by his brother, Dan Whitten; his sister, Susan Ambrosini (Mike); his brother-in-law, Daniel Woolbright (Karla); and several nieces and nephews.

Whit grew up in Columbus, Mississippi, where he graduated from Stephen D. Lee High School, Class of 1967. Following graduation, he proudly served in the United States Navy, including time aboard the historic USS Constitution, "Old Ironsides." After his honorable discharge, Whit began a distinguished career in the telecommunications industry with BellSouth/AT&T, where he worked for over 40 years. His strong work ethic, dedication, and commitment to excellence earned him the respect and admiration of colleagues throughout his career.

In 1969, Whit married the love of his life, Gaye Elaine. Together they built a life centered on love, family, and unwavering support. He was a devoted husband, a loving father, and a proud grandfather. Known for his warm personality, Whit never met a stranger and formed lasting friendships wherever he went.

In addition to his deep love for family and friends, Whit enjoyed reading and watching college football, especially cheering on the Mississippi State Bulldogs.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Tuesday, March 31, 2026, at Wright & Ferguson Funeral Home, 106 Cynthia Street, Clinton, Mississippi. Visitation will take place from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., followed immediately by the memorial service.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in Whit's memory to the American Heart Association.

The family expresses their heartfelt gratitude for the many expressions of sympathy, love, and support during this difficult time. Your kindness is deeply appreciated.
