Services for William P. Stevenson will be held Thursday, June 30, 2016, at 11 A.M. at Wright and Ferguson Chapel in Clinton, MS. with visitation prior to the service from 9 to 11 Thursday morning. Burial will follow at Raymond Cemetery, Raymond, MS.
Mr. Stevenson passed away at his home in Jackson on Monday, June 27. He celebrated his 93rd birthday on May 23rd 2016. He grew up in Raymond, MS and graduated from Hinds Agricultural High School in 1941.
World War II interrupted his college plans. He served in the Air Force, came home and graduated from Hinds Jr. College in 1947. He graduated from Mississippi State College (now MSU) in 1950 with a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering. He also served in the Korean Conflict.
He began his professional career working for the Mississippi Highway and Roads Dept. (Division of State Aid Road Construction) in 1951. In 1980, he was appointed State Aid Engineer, by Governor William Winter. He retired in 1988.
He married Elaine Lee on December 16, 1951. They had two children. .
He and Elaine were active members of Capitol Street Methodist Church and later Galloway UMC. Mr. Stevenson's accomplishments and activities included: Boy Scouts of America Leader, Karnac Hunting Club, Mississippi Forestry Commission, 32° Scottish Rite Mason and he was an avid, die-hard Bulldog!
Mr. Stevenson was preceded in death by his wife Elaine and son William P. "Billy" Stevenson, Jr. He leaves behind a loving family, who will miss him dearly. Daughter, Lee Ann Stevenson Wilson; Granddaughter, Charli Woods (Scott) and their daughter, Reagan.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Galloway UMC and Alzheimer"s Mississippi, 855 S. Pear Orchard Road # 501, Ridgeland, MS. 39157.
