Obituary

William Martin, 68, passed away on May 10, 2026. He was born on April 29, 1958, in Jackson, MS to George A. “Jiggs” Martin and Emma Martin.

William lived a life of service, hard work, and laughter. He proudly served his community as a Captain with the Jackson Fire Department, where he dedicated over 30 years to protecting and helping others. After retiring from the fire department, he continued serving his community as Transportation Director at Jackson-Hinds Comprehensive Health Center.

Those who knew William will remember his great sense of humor and the way he could keep everyone around him laughing. He had a gift for bringing joy into a room and making people feel at ease. He was also a history buff and enjoyed playing chess, always appreciating a good story, a thoughtful conversation, and a well-played move.

William was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Phyllis Martin; his brother, George Martin, Jr.; and his grandson, Brannon Martin.

He is survived by his children, Scott Martin (Devin), Joshua Martin, and Brandi Martin; his grandchildren, Andrew (Rhiannon), Taelor, Ever, Oak, Logan and Zachary; and his great-granddaughter, Lillian.

William’s legacy lives on in the family he loved, the many lives he touched through his service, and the laughter and memories he leaves behind. He will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all who knew him.
