Obituary

William Thurman Douglas, Jr. of Clinton, MS was born in Oakville, MS on May 6, 1939. He was married to Martha Glenn Mangum Douglas for nearly 60 years. The joy of his life was his wife, their four sons William Douglas III (Beth), Bert Douglas, Bryan Douglas (LuAnn), Brett Douglas and grandchildren Evan and Alexa Douglas.

Known as Buddy to his family and friends, he was a member of First Baptist Church, Clinton, where his parents and family attended for many years. He graduated from Clinton High School where he played basketball and football. Afterwards, he attended Mississippi College, where he played basketball, and received Bachelor of Science and a Master of Science Degrees in Mathematics. He was born with a love of teaching, and his profession was as a systems engineer. He worked at the Dahlgren, VA Naval Base during the Cuban missile crisis and then with NASA in Houston, TX during the Apollo program.

He worked with IBM for 26 years, for Raytheon Technologies, the Mississippi Department of Human Resources in service with Colonel Donald Taylor, and the private, non-profit organization, Information and Quality Healthcare (IQH) where he was a project manager improving and increasing healthcare for MS. His talents in the field of computer science gave him the opportunity to serve as an adjunct professor at Houston Baptist University, Mississippi College, and Jackson State University. Buddy loved helping people. His encouraging Christian life caused him to love the Lord with all his heart, soul, and mind and to love his neighbor as himself.

In addition to his wife, Martha Glenn Douglas, he is survived by his two sisters, Marion Douglas Sandifer and Amylou Douglas Flournoy; his nieces, Bobette Sandifer Thompson and Jaclyn Tyler Crisp; nephew, Rob Sandifer; his brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Robert and Jane Hederman; and other nieces, nephews, and cousins. Buddy was preceded in death by his parents, William Thurman Douglas and Berteal Langston Douglas; sister Nanette Douglas Tyler, and nephews, David Sandifer and Lee Tyler. He cherished many special people in his life including Steven McElroy, Brenda Moore and Trish Keith. The family would like to express special appreciation to all the health care providers who have cared for Mr. Douglas.
