William Scott
Cooper
January 15, 1950 – August 30, 2025
On August 30th, William "Scott" Cooper, passed away at home surrounded by his wife, JoAnn Shoemake Cooper and his sister-in-law, Beverly Shoemake on Saturday, August 30th. After having multiple strokes in 2021, Scott fought a long, hard battle until the end. He had multiple other illnesses but kept fighting as hard as he could to try and get better.
Scott was born on January 15, 1950, in Brandon, Mississippi to Seth and Ruby Jewel White Cooper.
In 1968, Scott graduated from Pelahatchie High School and attended Hinds Community College.
He was saved at 12 years old and rededicated his life to Jesus in his forties. Scott's friends say, "Scott is absolutely the only person we have ever known who could do almost anything and tried almost everything. As an Army draftee during the Vietnam era, he was honorably discharged because he was injured during basic training.
Scott purchased one of the first the first TRS-80 Tandy computers and taught himself how to use it. From there, he taught himself how to build computers and set up networks for many companies. He used his computer skills as he worked in the oil and gas industry. He was the Project Manager during construction for the Isle of Capri Casino in Vicksburg. He worked at other commercial construction companies and then, opened his own companies, Village Homes and Scott Cooper, Builder. He was the first Director of the Muse Center at Hinds Community College in Pearl.
He was an expert motorcycle rider, a pilot, a boat captain, a home builder, worked in the oil and gas industry and was capable of doing most anything.
Scott and JoAnn had great fun as they rode their Harley Electro Glide Custom Classic through 44 states, 3 provinces of Canada and the Loop around Nova Scotia. They left their driveway in Pelahatchie and sometimes would ride for more than 2 weeks.
One of Scott's dearest friends has a special way of remembering Scott. He said, "Scott was an unusual and remarkable character. I have never known a person who was so ornery and yet so well liked. I have not met a person who did not like and/or admire Scott. I feel fortunate to have spent so many happy hours, events and activities with him over the years. He was unique in that he never found anything that he could not do OR go down trying. There are so many things that I saw him do that most men would not even try."
Scott is survived by his loving wife, JoAnn and his sister-in-law, Beverly Shoemake.
Mr. Cooper's visitation will be at The Church at Shiloh on Saturday, September 6th from 2:00 pm until 4:00. After visitation, Brother John Wells will do a brief eulogy of Scott.
