William "Bill" Carl Young, 90, of Brandon passed away Sunday, January 23, 2022. A Memorial service will be held at 11:30am on Saturday, January 29, 2022 at Wright & Ferguson Funeral Home in Flowood. The family will receive friends from 10:00am to 11:30am.

Bill was born January 29, 1931 in New Augusta, MS to the late Harmon D. and Mary Adelia Young. He was a graduate of New Augusta High School, MS Southern College, US Navy Supply Corps School and the Tax Institute of the University of Southern California.

Bill served in the US Navy and was a Supply and Disbursing officer in various ships of the US Atlantic Fleet. He worked as the General Accounting Supervisor at Northern Electric Company, Secretary, Treasurer and Office Manager at Pearl Veneer Company, and Controller at Perry County Plywood Corporation. Bill retired as Bureau Director from the MS State Tax Commission and then worked as a volunteer with the International Executive Corps and USAID Division of the US State Department. He also served as tax advisor to the Financial Assistant to the Mayor of Narva, Estonia and to the National Finance Department in Tallin, Estonia. Bill was an original member and co-organizer of Pinelake Baptist Church and was active in other churches in the reservoir area.

Bill is survived by his wife, Peggy Jean Young; son, William C. Young, Jr. of Glenberry, TX; brother, H. Donald Young (Margaret) of Ocean Springs, MS; brother-n-law, Jimmy Martin (Brenda) of Dibold, TX; grandchildren, Dr. John Russell Young (Allison) and Mila Rebecka Shields (Richard); and great-grandchildren, Emily Grace Shields, Jackson Parker Shields, Samuel Preston Shields, Morgan Elizabeth Young, and Taylor Grace Young.
