William Lynn Butler, 72, passed away on February 25, 2021. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, March 2, 2021 with visitation beginning at 1 p.m. at Wright & Ferguson Funeral Home in Clinton, MS.
Lynn was born on October 27, 1948 in Clarksdale, MS. He graduated from the police academy at age 45. He served as a deputy sheriff for 25 years with the Hinds County Sheriff's Department and 17 years as a firearms instructor. He also worked security at Hinds Community College. Before law enforcement, Lynn owned a motorcycle shop and a sporting goods store. He was also an avid outdoorsman and hunter.
Lynn was preceded in death by his parents, William Madison and Elwyn Lowe Butler; his biological mother, Betty Lou Proctor; and his sister, Marilyn Lowe Butler.
Lynn is survived by his wife of 53 years, Brenda Gregg Butler; his daughter, Rose Butler Hageman (Dean); his grandchildren, Thomas Ladner, Ashton Ladner, Heather Bunton (Jon) and Amanda Nelson (Tony); great grandchildren, Jude Bunton and Annabelle Nelson; his sister, Jane Cutbirth; many cousins; his yorkie and constant companion, Tinkerbelle Butler.
