Wes Lackey, 39, passed away unexpectedly on March 18, 2016. He was born March 18, 1977. He worked as a supervisor for UPS in Jackson Ms.
Wes is a beloved son, grandson, uncle, nephew and brother. He is a treasured friend. His love of life, people and music led him to journey throughout the country where he met people who became longtime friends. He loved the Redskins and played basketball for Central Hinds Academy in Raymond.
He also learned about history and politics, two of his great passions in life. He was an avid reader, and relished in analyzing political activities local and around the world. He had a keen sense of fairness and a strong work ethic. He was often able to make seemingly unresolvable issues right. But, sometimes, his acrid sense of humor was all that was needed. Or, for those who truly know, he had that sideways squint and baby-face frown that could stop a train.
Wes loved good food. And, he loved the people who were in the restaurant business. Going out to eat with Wes was always a celebration. Sharing life with him meant having a life filled with joy and recognition. Wherever he went, he was always greeted with a wave, by his first name, with a smile and a table was waiting.
Although Wes was fun loving, he was also kindhearted. He gave freely to numerous charities including ALS Worldwide Organization. He loved his friends and family and often gave up his free time to help them. No problem or request fell outside the realm of his consideration. His willingness to share what he had or facilitate action in a time of need was endless. He dreamed of having a home, growing a garden, marrying the love of his life, raising children, being involved in church and enjoying success in his work.
To his friends: thank you for all the love and support you have given the family during this time of our loss. You were precious to him and you are precious to us.
Wes is survived by his father, Paul Lackey of Raymond, MS; and mother, Kathryn L. Martin of Houston, TX; his sister, Lara Crowder of Morganton, NC; and two younger siblings, Jeff Chandler and Jane Chandler of Youngsville, LA. His paternal grandmother Dorothy Lackey of Raymond and maternal grandmother Robbie Herrington of Brandon, Ms. He has numerous adoring nephews and nieces.
