Wesley Melvin
Garner
September 1, 1948 – June 14, 2025
Wesley Melvin Garner, 76, passed away on June 14, 2025 at Baptist Medical Center in Jackson, MS surrounded by those who loved him. Wesley was born in Bolton, MS on September 1, 1948, to Cecil Garner and Alice "Geneva" Garner (Clark). Wesley attended Mississippi State University, where he earned his Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering. He worked for several years at Mississippi Power and Light prior to taking a position as a supervisor at Entergy, where he remained until he retired in 2003. Wesley married Sheila Garner (Griffin) on July 15, 1972 in Vicksburg, MS. Together, they had two daughters, Kristy Lynn Garner and Julie Marie Garner (Lanier). He took great pride in his two granddaughters, Kadence McKenna Lanier and Madelyn Pate Lanier, daughters of Julie and her husband, Paul. Wesley was preceded in death by his father, mother, sister Cecilia "Ann" Garner (formerly Twiner and Cupps), sister Janet Garner Barnett, and brother Craig Sidney Garner. Wesley enjoyed sneaking table scraps to his slightly overweight canine best friend, Tobie, listening to classical music on his prized possession, a Bose cd player (which he never would have bought for himself and only accepted because it came from a thrift store), and traveling to the mountains of TN with Sheila in the fall to pick apples that he shared with everyone who would take them. Wesley was the kind of person you could always count on- generous with his time, his hands, and his heart. He never hesitated to help a friend or neighbor in need. Wesley was a man who believed in taking care of his own. He worked tirelessly and lived simply, always putting his family's future before his own comforts. True to his nature, Wesley requested a simple farewell. He chose cremation and asked that no formal services be held- never one to want a fuss made over him. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Tunica Humane Society, St. Jude Children's Hospital, or the Blair E. Batson Children's Hospital.
