Walter
Berryhill
December 28, 1938 – March 2, 2022
Walter Luster Berryhill, age 83, made his journey to his Heavenly home on Wednesday, March 2, 2022. He passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family. He was born, one of 6 children, to May Bell and James "Jimmy" Robert Berryhill in Learned, Mississippi on December 28, 1938.
Walter grew up in Terry, MS where he graduated from high school and married his long-time sweetheart, Elsie Moss at Terry Baptist Church on November 10, 1962.
Walter served his country in Japan as an analyst for the National Security Agency. Upon his return to the states, he worked for ITEK, owned the Terry Supermarket, and retired from A.B. Dick Company. After retirement, Walter enjoyed working at the WIN Job Center and served as a substitute teacher at Northwest Rankin High School where he was adored by students, faculty and administrators. A student even created Walter his own Instagram fan page entitled "walter_sightings" to show their love and admiration for their "favorite sub".
Walter was a devout Baptist and loved Jesus with his whole heart. He was always the strong spiritual leader in his home, served as Chairman of Deacons at First Baptist Church of Terry and was a member of First Baptist Church of Jackson. Walter enjoyed working in the yard, bird watching, gardening and spending time with his family. His heart belonged to his wife, daughters and granddaughters. He maintained a strong Godly presence as the patriarch and enjoyed his time with his family above all else. He enjoyed a close relationship and spending time with his son-in-law, Bobby Link, for whom he consistently beamed with pride. He loved to hear his daughter, Chris Link, sing and never missed an event of his granddaughters or the opportunity to share the love of Christ with whomever he met. Humor was not lost on Walter as he was always able to find the light in any situation and evoke laughter with a very quick wit.
Walter is survived by his wife, Elsie; his children, Tina Angela Berryhill and Lynda Christian "Chris" (Bobby) Link; his grandchildren Gracie Link and Liza Link. He was preceded in death by his parents, May Bell Cox and James "Jimmy" Berryhill and siblings, Herbert, Allen, Mary (Nail), Evelyn (Hennington) and Dorothy (Sheffield).
Visitation will be held on Saturday, March 5, 2022, from 10:00 am until the 1:00 pm service time at Wright and Ferguson Funeral Home in Flowood, MS. Burial will follow in the Terry Cemetery.
The family would like to thank Kare-in-Home Hospice and Amanda Middleton, caregiver, for their kind and loving care during this time.
