Wallace Alonzo
Jones
November 10, 1935 – May 6, 2023
Wallace Alonzo Jones, age 87, was welcomed home to his Lord and Savior on May 6, 2023. He was the most loving and special father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother and friend to all and will be greatly missed. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, May 10 th at 9 a.m. at Ridgecrest Baptist Church in Madison, MS with the service to follow at 10 a.m. A private graveside service will be held at a later date.
He was born November 10, 1935, in Jackson, MS to Claude Vivian and Molly Bilbo Jones. After moving to Laurel, MS while in high school he met the love of his life, Bobbie. They were married in 1955 and made their home in North Jackson, raising 3 daughters. They enjoyed 65 years together before her passing in 2020. Wallace was a living example of love, compassion, selflessness, and strength as he cared for Bobbie in the latter years of her life.
Wallace retired from Entergy Corp. (formerly Mississippi Power and Light) after 36 years of service. He and Bobbie moved to Madison in 1987 where they enjoyed fellowship with both new and old friends in their new community. Wallace was a member of Ridgecrest Baptist Church having been a member for about 60 years. He served as a deacon and was also instrumental in helping the church relocate from North Jackson to Madison, serving as the Building Committee Chair.
Wallace was an avid outdoorsman and especially loved duck hunting, deer hunting and fishing. He also enjoyed golfing with his buddies from his Sunday School class and gardening alongside his neighbors, who are the most devoted and helpful friends. He was the family champion of any game ever played. From basketball to horseshoes to ping pong, dominoes, or cards, he could play it all very well!
Most importantly he was strong in his faith, had a beautiful and kind spirit and was well loved and respected by all who knew him. He will be remembered for his generous heart, love of friends, and for his love, sacrifices, and dedication to his family. He will also be remembered for his love of Blue Bell Ice Cream!
He is survived by his three daughters, Jeanie Wilcher (Gary) of Madison, Teresa Coward (Bruce) of Atlanta, GA, and Priscilla Burris (Tom) of Birmingham, AL; grandchildren Keeley Wadsworth (Drew), Chris Burris (Christin), Bradley Wilcher (Victoria); five great granddaughters - Ava Drew Wadsworth, Ann Wells Wadsworth, Annsley Kate Burris, Addy Grace Burris, Aly Beth Burris and another due in June 2023 (Kennedy Blake Wilcher); Additionally, his siblings, Thadius M.
