Mary "Virginia" McDill Nicholson, better known as Virginia, Mrs. Ginny, Granny and Mamaw by her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and friends passed from this life into the heavenly kingdom on June 29, 2018. She was born on February 6, 1940 as one of eight children to the late Preston and Alline McDill in Conehatta, Mississippi. She attended Conehatta High School and graduated in 1958. Soon after graduation she married Sammy Lee Nicholson, Sr. on May 23, 1958 and they started their life together in Jackson, Mississippi. They were married for sixty years. After working in retail for a short period, she became associated with L.M. Berry "The Real Yellow Pages" where she worked for over forty years. In addition to being a genuine and loving Christian lady, Mrs. Virginia was a member of the Jackson Firefighter Ladies' Auxiliary that supported her husband's job as a firefighter in Jackson, Mississippi. After retiring in 2009, she and her husband traveled and enjoyed time with family. As an active member of Broadmoor Baptist Church, she served in the preschool ministries for many years, nurturing and guiding hundreds of children, which experienced the loving arms of Mrs. Ginny. She also volunteered at Vacation Bible School, built homes for needy families, attended mission trips, and participated in various recreational activities, such as basketball and softball.
She will forever be cherished in the lives of: husband, Sammy Lee Nicholson, Sr., children, Glenda Faye Nicholson Wright (Jimmy) and Sammy "Buddy" Lee Nicholson, Jr. (Sandy), grandchildren William Edward Lindley, III (Brittany), Amanda Brooke Nicholson and Sammy Lee Nicholson, III, and great-grandchildren, Annelyse Claire Lindley and Connor Reid Lindley. She is also survived by three sisters and one brother, many nieces & nephews. She will be dearly missed by her family, friends, her church family, and all who were blessed to meet her.
A visitation will be held on Sunday, July 1, 2018 at Wright and Ferguson Funeral Home in Flowood, Mississippi between 4:00-6:00 PM. A short visitation will also be scheduled on Monday, July 2, 2018 at 10:00 AM at Broadmoor Baptist Church and will be followed by a funeral service starting at 11:00 AM, also at Broadmoor Baptist Church. Following the Service at Broadmoor there will be a grave site service at Crestview Cemetery located at 1106 Star Rd. in Brandon, Ms.
In Lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Broadmoor Baptist Church Children's Ministry.
