Obituary

Virginia Hewitt Jones, 89, died Monday, February 14, 2022. She was born in Jackson, MS on December 20, 1932 to Harold and Virginia Hewitt. A native of Jackson, Virginia graduated from Central High School. She received her business degree from Millsaps College, where she was also a member of Chi Omega Sorority. Virginia met her future husband, Edwin Houston Jones at Millsaps, and they married upon graduation. She attended Riverside Independent Methodist Church.

Virginia started her career in banking at Trustmark Bank and eventually became a successful Realtor/ Broker owning numerous properties in the Jackson area. Her favorite pastime was trading in the Stock Market. Virginia was generous beyond measure and supported many charities and organizations. Among the various charities she supports, the Palmer Home and animal shelters were closest to her heart. Education was important to her and "Aunt Ginger's" generosity extended to funding her nieces, nephews, and close family friend's college pursuits.

Survivors include her sister, Sarah Hewitt Parker (Roy), niece Margaret Rachel Parker, nephews Roy Parker, Jr. (Merritt), John Parker (Wendy) and numerous great nieces and nephews.

Virginia was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and special Aunt, Mae Downing Barksdale. She leaves behind her beloved pup "Blackie" to her niece Margaret's care.

A graveside service will be held at Lakewood Memorial Park, Wednesday, February 16, 2022 at 1:00 pm.
