Virginia Hardy Covington, 66, of Pearl, MS passed away on Saturday January 15, 2022 at her home. Visitation will be held on Thursday January 20, 2022 from 4:00 pm until 7:00 pm and again on Friday January 21, 2022 beginning at 10:00 am all at Wright and Ferguson in Flowood. A funeral service will be held following visitation on Friday at 11:00 am with burial in Parkway Memorial Cemetery.
Virginia was born in Memphis, TN and moved to Jackson in 1962. She graduated from Manhattan Academy in 1973 and attended Mississippi State University where she was a member of the Alpha Delta Pi sorority. She worked briefly for Mississippi Employment Security Commission where she met her husband, John. She then worked for General Electric before going to work for Fox Everett. Most of her career was spent working for the School of Medicine, Division of Student Affairs at the University Medical Center, where she retired in April of 2021. Over the years, the thousands of students that came through the program became her adopted children and she referred to them as her "babies".
She was a member of the Richland Exchange Club where she served as a board member. She was also a member of the VFW Auxillary and the American Legion Auxillary. She loved spending time with her friends playing bingo as well as her weekly conversations while having her hair done.
Virginia was preceded in death by her parents, C. M. "Bill" Hardy, Jr. and Nancy H. Hardy. She is survived by her husband of 44 years, John Covington; her two daughters, Anita (Bryan) East and Christina (Patrick) McAlpin; her grandchildren, Caroline, Britt and Chase East; Merrick and Murphy McAlpin; her siblings, C. M. "Mike" (Deb) Hardy, III, Jeff Hardy, Mary (James) Willoughby and Nancy S. Hardy; as well as a number of nieces and nephews.
