Obituary

On June 23, 2022, Virgie "Boo" Horton left her Earthly home and walked into the arms of Jesus.

Virgie is survived by one sister, Frankie Nell, and a host of nieces, nephews, sisters-in-law, and friends who will greatly miss her. She is pre-deceased by her father and mother, Carl and Mary Horton, brothers Homer and Roy, twin brother Virgil, and her precious little fur baby Maggie.

Virgie was born and raised near Brookhaven, MS. After graduating from high school, she attended Copiah-Lincoln Junior College, then moved to Vicksburg, MS, with a friend to work. When her brother Virgil was discharged from the Army he went to New Orleans, LA, and begged Virgie to move there with him. She did. There she got a job with the 'Telephone Company' as a long-distance operator on a 'cord board.' During her 33 years of service, she was involved in computerizing long-distance telephone service. She retired as a Chief Operator in October 1987.

While working in the New Orleans area Virgie lived in Metairie in one-half of a specially designed duplex that she shared with her sister Frankie Nell's family. She was a member of Metairie Baptist Church, where she taught 5 th grade Sunday School and worked in Vacation Bible School overseeing craft projects for all the children. She often went on trips with the children, teens, and young adults as chief cook and bottle washer.

Virgie excelled in many activities, including cooking, sewing, gardening, crocheting, needlework, and photography. She walked several miles a day for many years. She loved to travel with family and friends to places all over the United States, Europe, and the Holy Land.

At age 73, Virgie adopted her one and only four-legged fur baby, a long-haired Dachshund she named Maggie. Virgie loved children. She was close to all of her nieces and nephews and would babysit for just about anyone who would ask.

After Hurricane Katrina, Virgie and Frankie Nell's family decided to move farther north. They settled in Clinton, MS, in houses next door to each other.  Virgie became a member of Wildwood Baptist Church where she was active in Sunday School and MAGIC, a senior adult fellowship group.

Throughout her life Virgie was a committed Christian, and the one thing she loved more than anything was her Lord Jesus Christ.  She wanted everyone to know the Lord so much so that when she went out to eat she would ask the waiter if there was anything she could pray for them.  She always left them with the fact that Jesus loves them and invited them to church.

Virgie will be greatly missed by all of her family and many friends.  We love you, Virgie.  Until we meet again, rest in peace.
