Obituary

Vernon A. Walls passed away peacefully on October 21, 2022 at the age of 86. He was born September 11, 1936 in Horton, Alabama to Rev. Henry C. Walls and Jessie Johnson Walls. He graduated from Mortimer Jordan High School, Morris, Alabama in 1954 and immediately joined the U.S. Air Force where he served at various Air Force bases and was honorably discharged in 1957. He lived his dream of flying which was his hobby/love. Took his first solo flight after only 3 hours and received his Instrument/Multi-Engine Rating.

Vernon moved from Alabama to Clinton, Mississippi in 1967 to pursue gainful employment with Reliance Universal (later bought by Akzo Nobel) where he retired from in September 1999. He served as lab tech, sales service and technical director. He was a Mason, 32 nd Degree Scottish Rite Mason and Shriner. Vernon and Christine were married June 1, 1985. After retiring, he was employed by Marc Inc. from 1999-2021.

Vernon was preceded in death by his parents; his older sister, Elsie Murphree; and older brother, Fred Walls.

He is survived by his wife, Christine E. Bailey Kirk Walls; his children, Suzanne (John) Perkins of Clinton, Steve (Sandra) Walls of Clinton and John (Erika) Walls of Clinton; bonus daughters, Lisa Kirk of Byram, Lana (Will) Conerly of Oro Valley, AZ, and Lenaee (Ricky) Thompson of Byram; grandchildren, Dee (Ashley) Perkins of Clinton, Hunter (Ronna) Walls of Brandon, Stephanie Walls of Clinton, Drew Conerly of Denver, CO, Maria (Kray) Winston of Brandon, Nick (Nicole) Hardeman of Springdale, AR, and Ashia (Ben) Good of Starkville, MS; great grandchildren, Addison Claire Perkins, Conner Perkins, Juleon Winston, Austin Good and Bennett Good; and siblings, Carl Walls of Gardendale, AL, Iva Walls of Arab, AL and Glen Walls of Antioch, CA.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, October 26, 2022 at First United Methodist Church in Clinton with visitation beginning at 9 a.m. Graveside services will follow at Clinton Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Shriners or First United Methodist Church in Clinton.
