Vernon Carroll McNeil, 82, passed away on March 18,2017, after a short illness. Visitation will be held on Monday, March 20, 2017 from 4 to 8pm at Wright and Ferguson Funeral Home in Raymond. Services will held on Tuesday, March 21,2017, at 11am at the funeral home with visitation one hour prior to service. Graveside services will follow at Lakewood Memorial Park in Jackson.
Carroll is survived by his daughter, Eve McNeil; son-in-law, Jimmy Barlow, Jr (Pearl); his grandchildren, Ben Edwards (Terry), Chris Edwards (Carthage), and Miranda Edwards (Pearl).
He is preceded in death by his wife, Gaynell McMillan McNeil; parents Vernon Henry and Quinne Bell McNeil; brother, Bill McNeil; sisters, Barbara Eley (Raymond) and Mavis Cousino (Katy, TX). He leaves behind many dear relatives and close friends.
Carroll was born in Learned and raised in and around Raymond before marrying Gaynell and moving to Forest,MS, where they raised their family. After her death, he later returned to live in Raymond to be close to his family. He found enjoyment tending cattle and fishing. He also loved the horse show circuit.
He was a member of Highland Baptist Church in Jackson, MS after attending and serving as a deacon at East Forest Baptist Church.
Carroll retired after many years with Marthon Oil Company and MS Mortuary Services.
He proudly served his country as a firefighter in the United States Air Force during the Korean War. Pallbearers and motor escort will be provided by Sons of the Confederate and Patriot Guard.
He will be missed greatly by all who knew and loved him.
