Tommy Newman, 88, passed away on Sunday, February 19, 2017 at Clinton Health and Rehabilitation Services in Clinton, MS. Visitation for Mr. Newman will be held on Wednesday, February 22, 2017 from 10:00am to 11:00am at Wright and Ferguson Funeral Home in Clinton with Services Beginning at 11:00am. Burial will follow at the Bolton Cemetery.
Tommy was born on March 21, 1928 to Thomas Jefferson Newman, Sr. and Ethel Mae Hollis Newman of Cleveland, MS. Tommy Graduated from Raymond Consolidated School and Hinds Jr. College in Raymond, MS where he enjoyed playing football. Tommy married Birdanell Roberts, his wife of 68 years and from their marriage came two daughters Dyann and Angela. Tommy was employed with Hinds County as a heavy equipment operator. In the 1970s they moved to Bolton, where he was employed with The Gaddis Farms Inc., until his retirement. Anyone who knew him, knew he liked a "good coon hunt" and loved to "dance a jig" he and Bert square danced for many years. More than anything he loved Bert and his girls.
Tommy was preceded in death by his Father and Mother, his brother James Ira Newman and his sister Hazel Eugenie Addison. He is survived by his wife, Birdanell Roberts Newman, Bolton, MS, his daughters Dyann Stevens (Glen) of Dardanelle, AR and Angela Newman Lancaster (Charles) of Bolton, MS; sister Jennie Sue McNair (Talmadge) of Raymond, MS; five grandchildren, Andy Stevens (Dianne) of Gardner, KS, Jason Stevens (Mary) of Olathe, KS, Cortney Lancaster Maury (Joe) of Madison, MS, Chad Lancaster of Wheatland, CA, Clare Lancaster of Bolton, MS and eight great-grandchildren.
