Obituary

Thomas Jerry May, lovingly known as Jerry, was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great‑grandfather. He was the first son of N.T. and Ozie Gill May, born on May 21, 1941, in Newton County, Mississippi. He entered the Kingdom of Heaven on April 5, 2026.

Jerry graduated from Petal High School and Draughons Business College. On November 18, 1962, he married the love of his life, Nelda Joyce Newell. Together they shared 63 years of marriage and raised two sons, building a life centered on faith, love, and family.

Jerry proudly served six years in the United States Marine Reserves. He spent most of his working life in the insurance business, where he was known for his honesty, dedication, and strong work ethic. He was a member of the Wahabi Shriners and the Freemasons, reflecting his commitment to service and brotherhood.

A man of strong faith, Jerry was a longtime member and deacon at Van Winkle Baptist Church and Griffith Memorial Baptist Church, faithfully serving his church communities throughout his life.

Before retirement and in his earlier years, Jerry deeply enjoyed the outdoors. He regularly loaded up his boat and taught many family members and friends how to water ski. He cherished hunting and fishing trips with his two sons and took great pride in planting his yearly vegetable garden. Growing tomatoes of all kinds was one of his greatest pleasures. His daily joy came from spending time with his family and cherished dog Henry.

Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, N.T. and Ozie Gill May, and his grandchildren, Thomas Aaron May and Mallory Victoria May.

He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Nelda May; his two sons, Marshall (Tissy) May and Marty (Amy) May; his granddaughters, Madalyn (Conner) Davis and Morgan May; his great‑grandson, Marshall Thomas Davis; his brother, Rev. Tonnie (Janet) May; his sisters, Dorothy Calvert and Debbie (Kenny) Byrd; and a host of nieces and nephews.

Jerry leaves behind a legacy of faith, love, and commitment to family. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who knew him.
