July 6, 1951 – June 26, 2025
Ted Carter, 73, passed away on June 26, 2025 at Baptist Hospital in Jackson, MS. He was born July 6, 1951, in Houston, MS to Howard Carter and Christine Brooks Carter. He was a member of St. Mark's United Methodist Church in Brandon, MS.
He attended the Woodland School and graduated from Houston High School in Houston, MS in 1969. He continued his education at Itawamba Junior College and Mississippi State University, where he played the baritone in the Famous Maroon Band, before graduating from Millsaps College in 1996 with a liberal arts degree.
Ted was employed at Bellsouth for twenty-one years. He also worked at ITC Delta Com, WorldCom, Intermedia Communications and ended his career as Vice President of Operations at Expetel Communications in 2008.
Ted enjoyed fishing, working in his yard and tending to his many rose bushes. Decorating for the holidays, especially Christmas, brought him tremendous joy. He was also a history buff and collected old coins. He loved to watch Dark Shadows, Ancient Aliens, westerns and spent many hours listening to all his old albums. He enjoyed spending time with his loving pets Precious, Sam and Katy.
His beloved family always came first to Ted. He leaves behind his wife of 44 years, Dolly Devers Carter. His sons Mark Carter (Debbie), Jonathan Carter and daughter Elizabeth Carter. His granddaughters Brittney Carter Perry (Chad) and Emma Carter, along with his great granddaughter Carter Blair Perry, all of Brandon, MS. He also leaves behind several nieces and nephews and their families. He is proceeded in death by his parents, Howard Carter and Christine Burgess, his stepfather Millard Burgess, his brother David Carter and sisters Nancy Wilson and Laverne Eaton Malone.
Services will be Sunday, June 29th at Wright and Ferguson Funeral Home in Flowood. Visitation will be from 1 – 3 pm, followed directly by the funeral.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to St. Mark's United Methodist Church 400 Grants Ferry Rd. Brandon, MS.
