Susan "Lita"
Cabaniss Culbertson
May 20, 1933 – July 11, 2022
Susan had her 89 th birthday May 20 th surrounded by her family for a wonderful celebration. She went to be with our Lord on July 11, 2022, after a long struggle with physical abnormalities but more recently a hip fracture, heart valve replacement and pulmonary complications. She passed away at Baptist Hospital emergency department.
Susan was born on May 20, 1933, in Jackson, MS to William and Betty Cabaniss. She attended "The W" after high school and was a member of the Rogue Social Club. She got her first job at UMMC in 1955 with Dr. Hardy because she could take shorthand. She went on to do medical transcription. She typed so fast; one doctor told her that he needed to pour water on her typewriter to cool it off.
Susan was an excellent card player and loved playing Bridge. She was also an excellent seamstress making heirloom baptismal gown and smocking for her grandchildren, making dream catchers and needlepoint/cross stitch, etc. She also loved working crossword puzzles. She was the only person I know of who could work the New York Times puzzle in pen in under an hour. Susan was an avid member of the Dream Group at St. Andrew's.
She had and infectious laugh, a heart as big as all out of doors and she never met a stranger. She was a wonderful sister, mother, and friend. She will be missed by many.
Susan is survived by her sisters, Betsy Holcomb (Ed) and Rita Paschall (Martin); children, William McBroom (Veronica), Susan McBroom Potts (John), and Davis McBroom; stepdaughter Jeannie Culbertson (Len); grandchildren, Bentley Chisholm (Lise), Owen Chisholm (Jillian), Lindsey Ferguson (Garret), Tara McBroom Traylor (Cody), Mason McBroom, Blake McBroom, and Sara Damron (Mike); great-grandchildren, Justin, Parker, Jack and Addie Lynn Chisholm and Evelyn, Rory, Colin, and Gunner Ferguson; and nephews, Mark and Lee McCleskey.
She is preceded in death by her brother, William Lindsey Cabaniss, Jr.; parents, William Lindsey Cabaniss and Betty McCleskey Cabaniss; Verne Culbertson and Roger Culbertson; and uncle, Heartwell McCleskey (Yvette).
