Obituary

Steve Welton Carlisle was born on August 20, 1959, in Manchester, Georgia and grew up in the nearby small town of Shiloh.  He has been a resident of Brandon, MS for the last 40 years. He went to be with his Lord and Savior and his family in heaven in the early hours of Monday November 21, 2022, at the age of sixty-three, after a hard-fought battle with multiple myeloma over the last year and a half.

Steve was born the sixth of eight children to parents who worked in the cotton mills located near Shiloh. Although he had a humble childhood, his family made up for it in Christian values and their love for one another. These values of helping anyone in need and loving all people remained with Steve until his last days on earth.

In 1977 while Steve was working in a mill, a coworker set him up on a blind date with his sister-in-law visiting from Mississippi whom he fell in love with immediately.  Steve married his sweetheart Janice at the young age of eighteen in April 1978. They were married for forty-four years filled with love and happiness.  They remained in Georgia until shortly after the birth of their first child in 1981, at which time they moved to Mississippi.  Soon after moving, he was introduced to a career in offshore drilling by his father-in-law Bill, a career in which Steve spent forty years working.  Similar to his humble upbringing, Steve started at the bottom position offshore and through hard work, retired from a corporate position with one of the largest drilling operations in the world.  Through his work, he traveled to sixty-three countries and had friends around world.  Several of these were lifelong friends that he loved like brothers.  At the age of fifty-nine, Steve decided to retire but with his strong work ethic and love of his friends, that retirement only lasted a few months before he started back doing consulting work.

When he was not working, he loved to spend time with his two sons and their families. He loved to go on vacations in his RV with family and friends and make memories that will live on forever.  After his second retirement, Steve had big plans of camping and traveling more, but these were cut short a few months later with his cancer diagnosis.  He loved his five grandchildren dearly and always wanted them to "Come stay with Pawpaw" on the weekends or to take them camping.  Although Steve may not be able spend time here on earth with them any longer, the time he spent and the memories they made will forever be remembered and cherished. The grandkids truly have an angel in heaven looking down on them.

Although Steve's time on Earth was cut short by cancer, he touched so many lives and was loved by so many.  He seemed to never meet a stranger and would always help anyone in need.  His legacy will live on through his strong work ethic and the love of family that he instilled in his sons.  The memories that he left with family and friends throughout his life will always be cherished and never forgotten.

He is survived by his wife of forty four years, Janice Carlisle; sons; Joshua (Kattie) Carlisle and Matthew (Stephanie) Carlisle; Grandchildren: Abby Carlisle, Cameron Carlisle, Sadie Carroll, Cade Carlisle, Jaxon Carroll; Sister Vanessa and Randy Williams of Columbus, GA; Brothers: Tommy and Ina Mae Carlisle of Shiloh, GA, Lamar and Jody Carlisle of Warm Springs, GA, Wayman Carlisle of Shiloh, GA, Chris Carlisle of Shiloh, GA, Jeremy Carlisle of Shiloh, GA; six nephews, ten nieces, seven great nephews, and seven great nieces.  He was preceded in death by his parents George and Clarice Carlisle and brother Reese Carlisle.
