Lawson
April 15, 1941 – June 20, 2024
Stanton Wendell Lawson, age 83, passed away in Brookshire, TX on June 20, 2024 after a long battle with dementia.
Stan was born on April 15, 1941 in Morgantown, WV but grew up in Gainesville, FL. Stan loved the outdoors and frequently went on weekend campouts with his friends. In his senior year of high school the family moved to Auburn, AL where he met his wife, Martha McIntyre. They married in 1961 and Stan graduated from Auburn University with a business degree in 1964.
Stan began his professional career with Sears Roebuck in Huntsville, AL. Eventually, the family settled in Raymond, MS where Stan took a travelling salesman position with Amerock Corporation selling cabinet Hardware. Stan had an entrepreneurial spirit, and after nearly 30 years with Amerock, he founded the business, "Stan the Old Hardware Man" selling mail order vintage cabinet hardware throughout the US and Canada. He also started a pick-your-own Blueberry farm where extended family and friends would spend many a Father's Day weekend picking berries and visiting at the farm. Stan was also active in the local community where he was recognized as a business leader and served as a member of The Raymond Chamber of Commerce. He was very proud of his country and served in the Army National Guard and was called into active duty during the Cuban Missile Crisis.
Stan always had a smile on his face and loved to laugh. He loved ice cream and enjoyed indulging in a bowl whenever he could. He loved building all kinds of things from his barn and farmhouse to furniture to toys for his grandkids. He enjoyed working in his yard and vegetable garden. Most of all he was an honest, hardworking man with integrity and a giving soul. He will be missed by all that knew him.
Stan was preceded in death by his parents Stanton and Mary. He is survived by his wife of 62 years Martha; his brother Philip (Gail); his children Stanton "Sonny" (Jon Ann), Michelle Bordner and Cheri (Dave) Frederick; seven grandchildren, and two great grandchildren.
