Stanley L.
Prather
September 25, 1948 – January 20, 2025
Stanley Louis Prather, 76, of Clinton, Mississippi, passed away peacefully in his sleep on January 20, 2025 after his courageous fight with cancer. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 25, 2025 at Morrison Heights Baptist Church in Clinton with visitation beginning at 9:00 a.m. A private graveside service will follow at Mt. Moriah Baptist Church in Bogue Chitto, MS for the family.
Stan was born on September 25, 1948 to Leon Ray and Dora Patricia Brown Prather in Jackson, MS. He was a graduate of Natchez Adams High School, Copiah Lincoln Junior College, and Mississippi State University.
He was finally rewarded for persevering through a long-distance relationship when he married the love of his life, Frances Louise Leonard, on August 15, 1970. Stan served in the MS National Guard for six years and worked as an electrical engineer for 35 years with MS Power & Light Company and Entergy.
Above all, Stan loved and faithfully served his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. He was an active member of Morrison Heights Baptist Church where he served as a deacon. For many years, he faithfully volunteered at Second Harvest and with the Local Missions Ministry at MHBC. He was a member and more recently, President of Legacy of Faith.
He took his job as the leader and provider for his family very seriously. He was a wonderful husband for 54 years. As a father to two sons, he spent countless hours supporting the many activities the boys were involved in. Regardless of if he was wearing the hat of the band dad or soccer dad, he took the title very seriously and loved watching the boys succeed in whatever they pursued. Being a Gramps to his four grandchildren gave him the opportunity to let his hair down and be silly when they least expected it. Just like he did with his sons, Stan loved cheering for his grandchildren in all their activities and would beam with pride at the mention of them.
During his free time, Stan enjoyed woodworking, gardening, and researching his family's ancestry. He always enjoyed telling the story of his mom immigrating to the United States from Wales because she fell in love with his dad. He loved playing games like Mexican Train and Five Crowns with his family and friends. Everyone could always count on him to be sitting in his recliner watching a sporting event; but he especially loved cheering on his Mississippi State Bulldogs.
Stan is preceded in death by his parents, Ray and Patty Prather and brother-in-law, John Wellborn. Survivors include: his loving wife, Frances, and their two sons Chris (Mandy) of Overland Park, KS and Stephen (Lori) of Clinton. He will always be "Gramps" to his four beloved grandchildren: Caroline, Avery, Emma, and Emerson.
He is also survived by his sisters, Donna Wellborn of Natchez and Sandra Davis (Malcolm) also of Natchez along with numerous nieces, nephews, great-nephews, and great-nieces.
In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to Second Harvest c/o Morrison Heights Baptist Church or the Local Missions Ministry at Morrison Heights.
