Shirley Bevens Hooks, 79, of Jackson, passed away on January 22, 2016. Visitation will be held on Thursday, January 28, 2016, from 6 to 8 PM at Wright & Ferguson Funeral Home in Clinton. A funeral service will be held on Friday, January 29, 2016, at 12 PM in the chapel at Wright & Ferguson with a visitation one hour prior to service. A graveside service will follow at Lakewood Memorial Park South on McClure Road in Jackson.

Shirley was born on January 18, 1937, in Kosciusko, MS. She is a retired business owner of the Southside Lounge on Terry Road in Jackson for 28 years.

Shirley is preceded in death by her father, Thomas Orville Armstrong of Kosciusko, MS, her mother, Opal Moore Jordan of Jackson, MS, and her brother, Archie Glenn Armstrong of Jackson, MS.

She is survived by her sister, Glenda Ables of Kosciusko, MS; son, Dean Carney of Ocean Springs, MS; daughters, Sharon Bevens of Jackson, MS and Teresa Bevens of Brandon, MS; grandson, Jason Carney of Ocean Springs, MS; and her German Shepard "Zoey."
