Obituary

Sarah Kelly Albritton of Clinton, Mississippi, passed away peacefully with family and friends on Saturday, April 1 st , at the ripe age of 87. Visitation with friends and family will be Saturday morning April 8, 2023 beginning at 9 am at Providence Presbyterian Church in Clinton, Mississippi. A funeral service will follow at 11:00 am with burial in Clinton Cemetery in Clinton.

Sarah was born in Morton, Mississippi on February 9, 1936 and grew up in Forest.  Attending Forest High School, she became a notorious star basketball player under Coach Durwood Smith and is named in the Mississippi Sports Hall of Fame.  Sarah moved to Jackson, attended Belhaven College in 1954 and then married Ken Albritton from Clinton, MS.  Life moved fast and she gave birth to 3 girls and 2 boys. She worked at Deposit Guaranty Bank for 30 years.

Sarah loved to write and authored 3 books: The Other Side of the Flood , Embrace the Thorns and Jesus Cookies .  She had a green thumb and loved gardening.  She enjoyed cooking and kept a Christmas tree up year-round.  But among the things she loved most of all was spending time with her kidos playing Spades and telling stories late into the night: Spades games that bred smack talk and stories that are legendary!  Sarah was mama to 5 children, renownly known as 'Those Albritton Kids'.  Growing up in the 60's and 70's, they witnessed extraordinary times.  No babysitter could control them and no disaster could conquer their spirits. Sarah was a master of improvising.  She could change bad grades on any report card, and feed a family of 7 for a week with one pound of hamburger meat.  Sunday mornings were a priority and she single-handedly made sure that every Albritton child was clean, dressed and ready for church with money in their pockets for the offering plate, whether it got there or not. None could match her positive attitude and love for her family.  Many other children call her 'Mama Sarah' or ' Miz Albritton ' as if she were their own Mama.

She would want you to know that she loved her grandchildren with an extraordinary devotion.  They could do no wrong.  All of their decisions in life, bad or good, were totally justified in her eyes because to her they were flawless!  Great-grands?  All were also spectacular and as long as she was around, they roamed her house free of correction.

Sarah would want you to know all of these things…. Well maybe she will have something to say about changing report card grades when we see her in Heaven….

But the most important thing that she would want you all to know is that, flawed as she was, she was a Christian to the solid core of her soul and that one day 'at the name of Jesus, every knee will bow'.  None of us can tally the number of Bibles that she wore out with scribbles, dog-ears and family trees.  Those words defined her and sing her praises today even as we mourn for her now.  She has left a shell of her body here, joining those that have gone before her and all tears are gone.  She sees unimaginable things and hears indescribable sounds that we have never even dreamed of.

If you dare to step across a LINE in your soul today, a line called FAITH in her Savior Jesus, nothing would thrill her more.  Because THAT adventure is eternal and sure. Don't forget about that when you lose all hope and purpose.  And if you do decide to follow Jesus, your time will come to meet Him and there will be - Memaw, Mama Sarah, Miz Albritton - waiting for you with a wink saying, 'See!  I told you He was real!"
