Obituary

How do you distill a multi-dimensional, rich, and vibrant life into two-dimensional space on paper? Sara Rula Wilmesherr peacefully died in the Lord as she slept Tuesday, January 10, 2023. Sara Catherine, the one daughter with three other sons, Richard, Paul, and Greg, born to Adam Anthony Rula and Anna Catherine Runyon Rula, was a delight and carefully mined treasure from the start. Born in the happy month of May, the 23rd day of it, 1949, she expanded her heart readily to encompass the people in her world with love, care, service, and generosity. Her father taught her the value of hard work and her mother gave her the gift of resilience. She loved to be active and doing things; she tapped, she danced, she cheered, she rode horses, and she laughed with those in her childhood community of Vicksburg.

Smart as a whip, her mind shrewd and honed in the sciences, she went forth into college at Millsaps in Jackson, MS. Later, she became the patient mother of, would you believe it? Another round of 3 boys and a girl (Thomas, Adam, Jason, and Anna).

What a rough-and-tumble gang! Her heart swelled with adoration, delight, and yet again, resilience. Ed Wilmesherr then came into her life, along with his young son, Price, and once wed, the troop resided in the eclectic but oh so lovable Belhaven District of Jackson. Sara's heart kept on expanding to include the various and sundry friends and then spouses of her children that her Lord kept adding to her brood. A Mimi she became, pursuing and all out enjoying the time she spent with her 15 grandchildren. She served and she gave of herself warmly and happily. She was so much darn fun. She loved her cabin in the woods, Rivenwood, that she and her beloved Ed crafted and molded into a home away from home in Holmesville, MS. There she could watch the sneaky raccoons and graceful deer, the finches and the foxes, walk her forest paths, tend her fruitful garden, and listen to the steady ebb and flow of the nearby Bogue Chitto River.

Oh how God lavished His beloved daughter with bountiful stores of grace in this first chapter of her story. The future chapters are just beginning, as she walks happily beside her Lord and Friend, Jesus, in His land of glory, peace, and joy immeasurable.

She is survived by her husband Ed Wilmesherr of Jackson; her stepson, Price (Carolyn) Wilmesherr of Madison; her children, Thomas (Erin) Cabell of Nashville, TN, Adam (Callie) Cabell of Chattanooga, TN, Jason (Hannah) Cabell of New Orleans, LA,  Anna (David) Splaingard of Jackson, MS, and all her grandchildren; her brothers, Richard (Sherry) Rula of Madison, Paul (Stephanie) Rula of Dallas, TX, and Greg (Heidi) Rula of Phoenix, AZ, and all her nieces and nephews.

Sara was preceded in death by her parents Adam and Anna Catherine Rula and her stepmother Margaret Rula.
