May 20, 1939 – July 14, 2022
Sammy passed away at Hospice Ministries, July 14, 2022 at age 83. He was born May 20, 1939 in Shellman, GA.
Sammy attended school at Sasser in Shellman, GA. His profession relocated him to Florida, Georgia and then onto Mississippi with Cal-Maine Foods. He then relocated to Jarrett, Virginia and finally back to Clinton, MS where he retired after 20 years of service with Egg Traders Brokers.
Sammy enjoyed bowling and wood working and was a very skilled and creative handy man. He also enjoyed fishing, watching his Atlanta Braves baseball and old westerns on TV with his best friend and beloved canine, Coco, who loved napping on his lap. Coco will sure miss him.
Patricia and Sammy married May 21, 1988. They resided in Clinton, MS for 23 years, before recently moving to Edwards, MS. Sammy enjoyed making people smile and laugh. He loved telling jokes and making the room light up. This also includes jokes and wise cracks with the doctors, nurses and staff on the 5th floor (Baptist Hospital) during his recent long illness and hospitalization.
Sammy is preceded in death by his parents, Luther Sammons Jr. and Irene Simpson Sammons Gilbert; brothers Carlton Sammons, Benny Sammons, James Gilbert, Drewy Gilbert, and sister Winefred Gilbert.
Sammy is survived by his loving wife of 34 years, Patricia B. Sammons; brothers Don (Carol) Gilbert, Eddie (Glenda) Gilbert, sister-in-law Frances Gilbert; children Betty Jo (Bruce) Wilson, Tresa S. (Glenn) Berry, Buddy (Becky) Sammons, Traci S. (Scott) Loutner; stepdaughters Regina F. (Justin) Gaddy, and Shana F. (Eric) Armstrong; 15 grandchildren, 29 great grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren.
Service will be held at Wright and Ferguson, Clinton, MS on August 6, 2022. Visitation will be at 9:00am until 11:00am and memorial service at 11:00am. Private family burial will follow.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to The American Heart Association and/or Diabetes Foundation of MS.
