Sammy Nicholson, Sr., 79, died Monday September 18, 2018. Visitation will be held on Thursday from 5pm until 7pm at Wright and Ferguson in Flowood and again on Friday beginning at 10:00 am followed by services at 11:00 am at Broadmoor Baptist Church.
He was born October 3, 1938 the son of Sam and Ina Nicholson in Union, MS. After graduation from high school, Mr. Nicholson moved to Jackson and worked for the Clarion Ledger before he began his career with the Jackson Fire Department where he spent 41 years retiring in 2001. He also served in the Mississippi National Guard for over 30 years.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Mary Virginia McDill Nicholson. They were the parents of two children, Faye Nicholson Wright and her husband Jimmy; and Sammy (Buddy) Nicholson, Jr. and his wife Sandy. Also surviving are three grandchildren, William Lindley and his wife Brittany; Brooke Nicholson; and Sammy Nicholson, III; and two great grandchildren, Annelyse Lindley and Reid Lindley.
Memorials may be made to the Jackson Fallen Firefighters Memorial Fund or Broadmoor Baptist Church.
