Sam Lewis Cocke was born September 25, 1922 in Meridian, Mississippi and went to be with The Lord on Christmas Day 2014. He is survived by his wife of 65 years Patsy Oakes Cocke, sons Lewis Cocke Marla and Frank Cocke, daughters Patricia Whitton Ed and Wren Fulton Murray seven grandchildren, Brian Whitton, Brett Whitton Deidre, Lauren Buffington Phillip, Drew Fulton, Matt Fulton Katie, Lesley Fulton and Paris Cocke.
Sam was a veteran and POW of WWII. He arrived at Stalag IVB in Bad Orb, Germany POW Camp on Christmas Day 1944, exactly 70 years to the day of his passing.
After graduating from Mississippi College, he and his mother Lorena Parker Cocke in 1948 founded Beverly Gardens Florist in Jackson and served the Jackson Area for nearly 50 years.
Sam was a lifelong member of Calvary Baptist Church in Jackson, where he served as a Deacon. On any given Sunday, he could be found standing at the balcony entrance handing out church bulletins.
In later years he enjoyed his home in Clinton where he loved to garden. Surrounded by his children and grandchildren and his beloved dogs Beau I and Beau 2, Sam lived a life of simplicity and love. He is loved and will be missed by all.
Visitation will be held Monday, December 29, 2014 at Wright and Ferguson in Clinton from 10:0011:00 with service to follow at 11:00. Interment at Lakewood Cemetery.
