Roma Hubbard Askew of Edwards passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her loved ones on December 27, 2023. She was 95 years old and was member of the Edwards Presbyterian Church. She was a beloved daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, and friend to many.

Roma was born June 18, 1928, in Utica, MS to John Jefferson (JJ) Hubbard and Josie Newsome Hubbard. She was the first child in a family that included her younger brother, John Jefferson Hubbard, and sister, Barbara Ann Hubbard Montgomery.

Roma attended school in Utica then Edwards when her family moved there in 1943. Roma was a cheerleader and played basketball. She graduated high school in 1946. She attended Belhaven College and Draughn's Business School. In 1948, she married Sidney Knox (Knocky) Askew from Edwards. Together, they had three children- Sid, Jo, and Dan.

Roma and Knocky were married for 62 years until his death in 2010. They worked side-by-side in the Seed & Feed and Grocery business for many years. After retiring, they enjoyed traveling in their RV with the Red Carpet Good Sams. Together they started Askew's Landing Campground in Edwards.

Roma was preceded in death by her husband, parents, sister and brother.

She is survived by her children Sid Askew, Jo Askew Nosser (Johnnie), and Daniel Hubbard Askew (Diann); grandchildren Jennifer (JJ) Bonner (Scot), David Worrell (Kelli), and Blair Noble (Andrew). She was affectionally known as "Memaw" to her grandchildren and great-grandsons Brayden Thomas, Everett Worrell, Kempton Noble, and Tate Worrell. She also had two "bonus" daughters- Jane Montgomery McHann and Lauri Pappas. Other loving survivors include sister-in-law Peggy Hubbard Ditto and numerous nieces and nephews.

Services will be held Friday, December 29, 2023 at Edwards Presbyterian Church with visitation from 9:30am until 11:00am and funeral service at 11:00am. A graveside service will follow at Edwards Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be David Worrell, Andrew Noble, Johnnie Nosser, Monty Montgomery, Jeff Montgomery, Scot Bonner, Pete Hubbard, Pat Hubbard, and C.J. Zadrozny. Pallbearers in memoriam are Tim Hubbard and Bill Montgomery. Honorary Pallbearers are Mike Ratliff, Keith McKey, Kenneth Mitchell, MJ Hubbard, Dave Montgomery, Ken Cannada, Dave Harpole, and Russell Cannada.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Edwards Presbyterian Church, the Edwards Cemetery Fund, or French Camp.
