Obituary

Robert Rex McRaney, Jr., an attorney from Raymond, Mississippi, passed away peacefully at his home on December 20, 2024. He was born on September 30, 1950 in Oxford, Mississippi, which is probably how his love of the Ole Miss Rebels began.

Robert was a proud graduate of Oakland High School, Delta State University, and the University of Mississippi School of Law. That education led him to spend the better part of his life helping others as a "Lawyer and a Friend" at McRaney & McRaney, Attorneys at Law, which he opened with his father. His success in the legal field was because he showed compassion and grace to everyone he came in contact with. Before his legal career began he was a bank examiner for the State of Mississippi, and then worked for Citizens Bank in Trust in Canton.

Outside of the office, Robert spent many hours "coaching" his beloved Rebels and the New York Yankees. His love of people shone through his time teaching Sunday School at Alta Woods United Methodist Church and his hours of grand story telling about his many adventures throughout childhood and college.

Robert deeply loved his family and was most happy spending time with them. He took great pride in being a loving husband, the best "deddy," an amazing Pop Pop and Papa Robert, and a good brother.

He was preceded in death by his father Robert "Rex" McRaney, Sr. and his mother Hilda Grafton McRaney. Robert was survived by his wife Kathy McRaney; daughters Laurie Hill (Toby) and Kimberly Watson (Andrew); son Jared Fleming (Courtney); grandchildren Kaitlyn and Kylee Hill, Shepherd and Fisher Watson, and Griffin and Caden Fleming; sisters Janis Cook, Carol Walker, Susan Robertson, and Diane Malvaney; sister in law Cindy Wright (Sam); brother-in-law Anthony Haden (Rebecca); and a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, and great great nieces and nephews. The family would also like to recognize the kind and compassionate care provided by Christine McDougle to Robert while he was home.

Memorial contributions may be made to Alta Woods United Methodist Church Food Pantry or The Grove Collective in lieu of flowers.
