Robert William
Mashburn, Sr.
October 20, 1930 – July 14, 2024
Robert William Mashburn, Sr., age 93, died on July 14, 2024, at his home in Bolton, Mississippi.
He is survived by his daughter, Lou Ann Mellon (Richard) of Bolton; son, Robert "Bobby" W. Mashburn, Jr. (Janet) of Bolton; 7 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Anna Jo; his daughter and her husband, Sandra and John Brooks; and his brother, James Mashburn.
A lifelong resident of Bolton, Robert was involved in many agricultural, civic, and religious organizations. His farming operations included soybeans, cotton, wheat, hay, corn, and beef cattle. Some of the many awards he was honored to receive include being named to the Mississippi Soybean Promotion Board by five different governors, President of the Mississippi Soybean Association, and named to the United Soybean Board. He held leadership positions in the Farm Bureau organization, the Hinds County Soil and Water Conservation District and the American Soybean Association to name a few. He was active in the Mississippi Cattlemen's Association and a member of the National Cotton Council. Robert was named Conservation Farmer of the Year in 1979. In 1982, he was named Outstanding Farmer of the Year by the Central Mississippi Agri-Business Council. He was a recipient of the Hinds County Farm Bureau Distinguished Service Award in 1985, named 1991 Mississippi Farmer of the Year, and 1992 Man of the Year in Service to Agriculture. These were some of his many accomplishments that reinforced his love of farming.
When he wasn't farming, he was serving in leadership positions in his church and in organizations such as the Rotary Club and The Mended Hearts, where he served as president in 1994-1995. The Mended Hearts was an organization very dear to him and he faithfully visited hospital patients both before and after their surgeries to give them support.
The family would like to take the opportunity to thank all those who helped care for Robert, especially Maria Johns, Donna Jones, Willie Mae Tucker, Shiba Hatchett, and Inetta Miller.
