Bobby was born April 1, 1947 in Jonesboro, AR to Robert and Ernestine Henderson. He was the best son and big brother to his three siblings Jim, Pat, and John. Throughout his life, he always looked out for them, was always very generous with his time, and always brought joy and laughter to them.
In 1967, Bobby joined the United States Marine Corps and bravely served his country as a helicopter mechanic for four years. He fought in the Vietnam War and was part of several rescue missions to remove ground troops from harm's way. After serving his time in the military, he developed his skill in garage door sales and installation and even started his own garage door business, B and J Door Company. He worked tirelessly until he was no longer able to work.
In December of 1979, Bobby welcomed his daughter, Leanne, into the world. She gave him such joy, and he truly treasured her. Although he only had one biological child, he was a father figure to many and could discipline any child with one "look". His generosity and kindness knew no bounds. He was quick to come to the rescue when anyone needed it, but also quick to turn it into a teachable moment. He was very logical and practical in his thinking, so his daughter nicknamed him the "bubble buster" because he could always explain how her grand ideas may or may not work. He loved her fiercely and worked hard all his life to make sure she had everything she "needed" and a little of what she "wanted". He gained a son (Drew) in March of 2012 when he walked his daughter down the aisle. Through many golf rounds, they became fast friends, and they always spoke highly of one another.
Bobby married the love of his life, Dianne Henderson, in the fall of 1988. Their love story continued for 29 years with daily notes, thoughtful gifts, travel, and lots of dinner and movie dates. He was a very loving, giving, and trusting husband. Just the touch of his hand made everything feel okay. His presence is already greatly missed, and he will be the love of her life always.
Bobby was diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma in 1998 due to the exposure to Agent Orange in the Vietnam War. He survived two stem cell treatments and many more years of chemo in the form of pills. The fact that he survived for an additional 20 years is attributed to a blessing from the Lord, a fighter spirit, a great medical team, and his personal nurse (Dianne) who selflessly provided the best care during those 20 years.
Bobby loved spending time with family. He always enjoyed when the family got together to share memories and all of the good times growing up. No family gathering was complete without his mom's sugar cookies, ice-box cookies, and lemon cake.
Bobby also loved to play golf. In his later years, he played at least six times a week. He shot at least 6 holes-in-one and shot his age at 65. He was the Super Senior Club Champion in the Whisper Lake Club Championship in 2015, and he and his brother Jim won the Smokin' Pig Golf Tournament in June of 2017. He became very close companions with his golf crew (Jim, John, Ed, and Bob). They took golf trips and family vacations together. When Bobby got sick over the last six months, they were very quick to rally around him with support, love, meals, and all the donuts he could stomach. Their friendship was invaluable to him.
Bobby is preceded in death by both parents. He is survived by his wife, Dianne Henderson, his daughter Leanne (Drew) Grant, his siblings Jim (Deborah) Henderson, Patricia (Greg) D'Alessio, and John (Wendy) Henderson as well as many nieces and nephews.
