Richard Provis McGinnis, 82, passed away peacefully at his home on Saturday, September 14, 2024.  He leaves to mourn his wife of 28 years, Jacqueline McGinnis; brother, James McGinnis (Kristie) of Somerville, MA; sisters, Helen McGinnis of Harmon, WV and Theresa Harris (Michael) of Monroe, WA; stepchildren, Brian Dedeaux (Kathleen) of Austin, TX, Monique Dedeaux of Charlotte, NC, and Deidre Richard of Baton Rouge, LA; three granddaughters, Morgan Lee, Randel Richard, and Rhori Richard; two nephews, Jon Harris and David Harris; honorary son, Adrian Lewis; godson, Aidan Lewis; and a host of other relatives and friends.  He was preceded in death by his father, Dr. Richard McGinnis and his mother, Olive Ruth Provis McGinnis.  He was the Dean of Natural Sciences at Tougaloo College who dedicated over 55 years of his life to the institution and students.

A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, September 21, 2024, at 11:00 AM in the Woodworth Chapel at Tougaloo College.

A reception will immediately follow the service in the Bennie G. Thompson Civil Rights Research Center in the Student Gallery at Tougaloo College.
