Reuben Law Spencer, III, of Learned, MS, 78, passed away Tuesday, April 23, 2019 in Jackson, MS. Visitation will be 12:30-2:00 p.m. Friday, April 26 at Wright & Ferguson Funeral Home in Clinton. Funeral services will be held immediately following the visitation. Interment will follow at Raymond City Cemetery.
Reuben was born August 10, 1940 in Linn, MS to the late R.L. Spencer and Emma Lou Coleman Spencer. He lived his early years in Anguilla, MS before moving with his family to Indianola, MS. He lived in Indianola, MS for 40 years and then moved to Lexington, MS for 22 years. Mr. Spencer joined the United States Army in 1962 and served until 1967. He retired from AT&T (South Central Bell & Bell South) after 26 years in the telephone industry. He was a member of Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church in Lexington, MS and served as a deacon for several years. He enjoyed fishing, reading and spending time with his family and friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents and sister, Peggy Jean Spencer Morgan. Survivors include his loving wife of 52 years Shirley Marie Spencer; sons, Kenny Spencer (Tammie) of Greenwood, MS and Reuben Spencer (Deona) of Perry, GA; daughter, Amanda Bridgers (Miles) of Learned, MS; Marjorie Elaine Spencer Campbell of Louin, MS; grandchildren and great grandchildren.
