Obituary

Rebecca (Becky) Windham Pitts, 71, passed away peacefully into the arms of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, at Pine Acres Rehabilitation and Nursing Facility in Lexington, North Carolina of Lewy Body Dementia on Thursday, September 25, 2025.

Becky is survived by her daughter, Heather Pitts Jones, of Winston-Salem, North Carolina, her Grandson, Samuel Douglas Jones, of Winston-Salem, North Carolina, her sister, Lisa Windham Boswell, of Atlanta, Georgia (Danny Boswell), and by a dear aunt, Peggy Matthews, of Clinton, Mississippi. She is also survived by multiple in-laws, nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews. Becky is preceded in death by her husband, Douglas Laird Pitts, of Brandon, Mississippi, her parents, C.K. and Betty Windham, of Laurel, Mississippi, and her brother, Randy Windham, of Laurel, Mississippi. She is also preceded in death by many beloved aunts, uncles and cousins.

Becky was born on February 22, 1954, in Laurel, Mississippi, to parents, C.K. and Betty Windham. She graduated from West Jones High School, Class of 1972. From there she went to cosmetology school at Hatfields, Inc. Mississippi College of Beauty Culture in Laurel, MS where she earned her certification in cosmetology. In her senior year of high school, she began to date Douglas Laird Pitts and they were married on May 23, 1973. Becky was a devoted pastor's wife and spent her days supporting Doug in the ministry at various churches as well as held various clerical and secretarial jobs. Becky began working in the accounting department for the Jackson Public School District in Jackson, MS in 1993 and retired from the school district in June 2020.

Becky loved to sing in the church choir, play the piano, read, watch movies, cross stitch and needlepoint. Becky devoted her life to praying for others. She participated in the women's ministry and prayer/card making group at Flowood Baptist Church in Flowood, MS. She also enjoyed playing Dominos with a close group of friends, as well as, playing Bunko with another group of friends. Becky treasured her friends and family. Becky loved to brag on her daughter and grandson who she loved beyond measure.

Becky had a life marked by love, dedication and service. She modeled her Christian faith not only in words, but through daily acts of kindness, generosity, and self-sacrifice. She gave freely to her family, friends, the church, and her community. She had a special gift for making others feel seen and loved. Whether through her faithful card ministry, her warm hospitality, or cross stitching a baby gift for a new expecting mother.

We celebrate a woman who had a tremendous impact on so many lives. She leaves behind a legacy of faith, family, and compassion that will live on in all of us. The family will receive friends for a viewing to be held on Monday, September 29, 2025 from 5:00pm to 7:00pm at Wright and Ferguson Funeral Home in Flowood, MS. Becky's funeral service will be held at 11:00am, Tuesday, September 30, 2025 at Flowood Baptist Church, Flowood, MS, with Rev. Ricky Grey and Rev. Bobbie McGuffie officiating services. Burial service will immediately follow at Floral Hills Memory Gardens in Pearl, MS.

The family would like to thank Pine Acres Rehabilitation and Nursing facility in Lexington, NC and Trellis Supportive Care in Winston-Salem, NC for their dedicated and loving care over the last two months.

The family request in lieu of flowers that memorial contributions in memory of Becky to be made to either the Lewy Body Dementia Association or to the building fund at Flowood Baptist Church, Flowood, Mississippi.
