Phuong (Paul) Thanh Mai passed away due to unforeseen health complications on Thursday evening, January 14, 2021. Phuong leaves behind his parents: Phong Mai (father) and Nga Tram (mother); siblings: Tonya Mai (sister), Judy Mason (sister), and Hieu Mai (brother); his wife Michelle Mai and children: Blake Palmer (son), Dustin Mai (son) and Emilie Mai (daughter).

Phuong was born in Vietnam on April 24, 1972. During his early childhood, his family fled their country for political asylum during an uncertain time in history and made a difficult journey to settle in America. In his teenage years, his family ran a small business in Mississippi where he attended Richland Middle School and graduated Madison Central High School. Later, he obtained a degree from Holmes Community College where he went through the Occupational Therapy Assistant Program, pursuing his passion for helping those in need and rehabilitating them after trauma, illness or other health related conditions.

Phuong enjoyed anything social, being around people and working with people. He is well known for his excitable, goofy and unique personality combined with his warm and loving hospitality. Phuong loved hosting get togethers so that family and friends could enjoy good food, good drinks and good company, no matter the occasion. Other than surrounding himself with others, Phuong also enjoyed traveling with family and friends, playing and watching sports, and having a good time. He has entered the hearts of many with his loving attitude, ear-to-ear grin, and genuine laughter. He will be truly and dearly missed.

To respect his final wishes, Phuong has expressed that in the event of his passing, he highly discouraged a large service or flowers in his memory. Culturally appropriate monetary gifts are welcome. Visitation will be at 4:00pm Sunday, January 17, 2021 at Wright and Ferguson Funeral Home in Flowood, MS. A small service will be held following visitation at 5:00pm in his memory for family and close friends.
