Peggy Sue Williams

Peggy Sue (Montgomery) Williams, age 83, died Wednesday evening, September 2, 2026, at her home in Clinton, Mississippi.

Peggy was born December 3, 1942, in Cleveland, Mississippi, to Melton Haney and Ina Frances (Kendrick) Montgomery. She graduated from Holmes Junior College in 1961 and went on to work for Southern Airlines. Peggy married Don in the summer of 1963, and they later moved to Jackson, where both of their children were born and where they built their life together.

Peggy is survived by her children, Alex Scott Williams and his wife, Mitzi (Martin) Williams, of Clinton, Mississippi, and Donna Sue (Williams) Duarte and her husband, Steve Duarte, of Severna Park, Maryland; and by her six grandchildren: Bria (Williams) Grissom, Levi Williams, Lani Williams, Isaac Duarte, Michaela (Duarte) Chang, and Daniel Duarte. She was preceded in death by her husband, Don Norman Williams, formerly of Drew, Mississippi.

Peggy devoted many years of her life to deaf education in the greater Jackson area. At Magnolia Speech School, she drew upon her own experience and hard-won wisdom to encourage teachers and to help young parents find their way through challenges she understood well. She cared deeply about that work and about the families she served.

But the work closest to Peggy’s heart was serving others through her church. Over the years, she was part of the communities at Word of Life, Cornerstone, and Jackson First. Her faith was not simply something Peggy professed; it shaped the way she lived, the people she cared for, and the way she gave of herself. She loved Jesus Christ deeply and found great joy in sharing that love with others. Peggy was deeply loved by her family and by the many friends whose lives she touched over the years, and she will be greatly missed.

A celebration of Peggy’s life will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, October 17, at Jackson First Assembly of God Church. All are welcome to join the family in remembering Peggy, giving thanks for her life, and celebrating the faith that meant so much to her. Additional details will be posted on Facebook.
