Obituary

Patricia Ann Lang Harlan went to be with our Lord Jesus Christ on December 17, 2020. She was born to Carey Kimbell Lang and Zera Mae Womack Lang in Jackson on September 14, 1943. She heroically fought numerous physical challenges with inspiring optimism for 8 years with Bill as her caregiver.

She attended Jackson Public Schools including Central High School and graduated from Pearl High School. She graduated from Jackson Commercial College, attended Millsaps College, and was employed by General Acceptance Corp. She was married to William (Bill) Betts Harlan in 1963 moved to Oxford where Bill was attending pharmacy school at Ole Miss. She served as secretary to the pastor of First Baptist Church until Bill's graduation. They then moved to Jackson where she served as secretary at Parkway Baptist Church.

Pat was a gentile southern lady who lived a life of hospitality. She was happiest when she was entertaining & cooking for friends and family. She loved sewing for her daughter, helping her to become a Christian lady & mother, and how to make a happy home. She loved all things beautiful, her flower garden, her home, antique furniture, Christmas and history, especially researching family. She was the perfect partner for Bill helping manage their pharmacies and collecting antique architectural pieces that were used in the custom homes they designed and built. Pat loved her family and was so proud of Kimberly who was her pride and joy, and also grandson, William, and his accomplishments. She considered her role of mother and grandmother as her most prized accomplishments. She was a devoted wife and worked side by side with Bill in all their endeavors.

Pat will always be remembered for her love of growing flowers and sharing them with others. Pat always had a compliment for anyone she met. She enjoyed traveling including trips abroad, but she most enjoyed the trips she and Bill took studying genealogy and finding their roots. She traced all branches of her family to the early days of America and beyond. She took pride in helping others getting started with their family history.

She was a member of Broadmoor Baptist Church for many years where she was actively involved with the youth group. The last 10 years she was a faithful member of Oakdale Baptist Church. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her sister, Nina and brother Harold. Pat was devoted to the family she left behind; her husband William Betts (Bill) Harlan; her daughter Kimberly Harlan Dear and husband Gus; grandson William Harlan Dear. She is also survived by a brother, Mike Lang (Mary) and niece Sandra Floyd (BJ) and their children, and cousin Ray Lang (Sandra); sister-in-law Regina Harlan Boyles; niece Jennifer Boyles McCall (Joe), and nephew Janson Durr Boyles (Robin) and their children.
