Obituary

Norma Owen Robinson passed into the loving arms of Jesus on January 15, 2023 while residing at the Arbor in Ridgeland, MS. A memorial service will be held on January 20, 2023 at the Raymond Baptist Church, Raymond, MS. Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m. in the Sanctuary followed by a Celebration of Life Service at 11:00 a.m.

Norma was the daughter of Joseph Howard Owen and Beatrice Evans Owen. She was born on April 24, 1934 in St. Louis, MO. At the age of 11, following the death of her Father Joseph Howard, Norma and Beatrice moved to Raymond, MS where Beatrice married Delos Aden Nail. Norma was a graduate of Hinds Community College and went on to attend Southeastern Louisiana University on a voice scholarship. It was at SLU that she met and fell in love with Lester Harlis Robinson. They were married on December 18, 1955 at the First Baptist Church of Raymond, MS.

Norma and Lester lived in the New Orleans, LA area for many years. It was during this time that she formed many lifelong relationships and also developed a knack for Cajun cooking. Her favorite dishes always involved shrimp. She particularly loved to make seafood gumbo for her family and friends. Upon retirement they returned to Raymond, MS in 1995.

Above all things, Norma loved the Lord, her family, singing, and tending to her flower garden and her antique roses. Norma was a member of First Baptist Church of Raymond where she sang in the choir. She was also a member of The First Baptist Church of Jackson Reflections Choir under the direction of Eva Hart, whom she adored.  Norma's favorite outreach with Reflections was Thankful Christmas. Norma sang with The Mississippi Chorus. Her favorite performance was always Mozart's Requiem. Norma was a gifted soprano and singing to glorify Christ was her passion.

Norma participated in Christian ministry volunteering with the girls at The Oakley Training Juvenile Correctional Facility located near Raymond. She was committed to spreading the gospel of Jesus Christ to girls that were housed there. She would buy and present each girl with a new pink bible prior to their discharge and she would continue to pray for their continued spiritual growth as they moved on.

Norma is preceded in death by her parents, Joseph Howard and Beatrice as well as Delos Aden Nail, her husband, Lester Harlis Robinson and her son Daniel Scott Robinson. Norma is survived by her daughter, Leslie (Bruce) Brawner of Madison and her son Dean (Judy) Robinson of Bryson City, North Carolina and her brother Mike (Mimsie) Nail of Raymond, MS. Norma has three grandchildren, Lauren (Greg) Nichols of Madison, Bridget (Randall) Toffel of Birmingham and Beau (Nikki) Brawner of Seattle, WA. Norma is blessed to have four great-grandchildren, Ava Grace Nichols, Emma Reece Nichols, Ethan Gregory Nichols, and Joseph Gabriel Toffel.
