Nancy H. Hardy, 90, passed away peacefully at her home on Thursday, February 25, 2021. Visitation will be held from 4pm – 7pm Monday, March 1, 2021 at Wright & Ferguson Funeral Home in Flowood. A graveside service will be held at 11:30am Tuesday, March 2, 2021 at Parkway Memorial Cemetery in Ridgeland.
Mrs. Hardy was born in Dyer, TN to the late William Oscar Hunt and Mary Erwin Hunt and graduated from Memphis State. She married her husband, Courtsworth Mansfield "Bill" Hardy, Jr. in 1952 and lived a short time in California while Bill was stationed there. Upon returning to Memphis, TN she taught elementary school for several years.
They moved to Jackson in 1962 and she began her career as a teacher at Manhattan Academy in 1966 and taught until the school closed in 1983. She taught Business, English and was the Yearbook sponsor. She had a passion for teaching and could easily recognize what her students needed. She loved them all dearly and encouraged each of them to reach their potential. She was a mother that loved her children and family, sacrificing things for herself so that they had what they needed. She spent her life serving others and giving of herself. After retiring from her teaching career, she worked for UMC Division of Continuing Education as a coordinator for nursing programs.
In her spare time Mrs. Hardy enjoyed playing Bingo, working crosswords and crocheting. She was active in the American Legion Auxiliary and the VFW Auxiliary.
She is preceded in death by her parents; husband; brothers, William "Billy" Maxwell Hunt & Joe Marshall Hunt; and sister, Helen Louise Hunt.
Mrs. Hardy is survived by her children, Virginia Hardy Covington (John), Courtsworth Mansfield "Mike" Hardy, III (Debbie), Jeffrey William Hardy, Mary Elizabeth Hardy Willoughby (James) and Nancy Hardy Curry (Dean); grandchildren, Anita Covington East (Bryan), Michelle Hardy Carson (Josh), Christina Covington McAlpin (Patrick), Charles Hardy, Katie Regions, Hunter Hardy, and Cody Hardy; and 8 great grandchildren.
The family would like to express thanks and appreciation to Mrs. Hardy's sitters, Carla, Daneisha, Lazita and Annie of Sitters, LLC for their compassionate and dedicated care of Mrs. Hardy.
