Merl Alzada "Meme" Hittson went to be with her Savior peacefully at home on Sunday, August 20 at the age of 98. She was a longtime resident of her beloved city of Jackson. She was born on March 18, 1925 in New Orleans, La.
She is preceded in death by her parents Olive and Rolla Hittson of Jackson.
She is survived by her sister, Carolyn Hittson Johnson (Dr. William Cecil) of Meridian; nephew Dr. Bill Johnson (Hope) of Ridgeland; nieces Connie Wegener (Dr. Eric) of Ridgeland, Deas Schisler of Atlanta, and Carol Moseley (Lee) of Meridian; 6 great nieces, Marguerite Johnson, Olivia Johnson, Dr. Katie Wegener Brown (Dr.Turner), Ashley Anne Schisler, Cecelia Moseley, Caroline Moseley; and 6 great nephews William Johnson, Benjamin Johnson, Eric Wegener, Jr, Cecil Wegener, Mark Schisler, Jr. and Leland Moseley.
She was greatly loved by her large family who were influenced by her kind and gentle way. She always put others before herself and was a very wise lady. She loved and lived for Jesus and her actions exemplified this. She was a member of Pinelake Church for 49 years which she faithfully attended. She enjoyed seeing much of the United States and traveling to many European countries in her younger years.
Merl graduated from Byram High School and was Miss Byram High. After briefly attending Ole Miss, she returned to Jackson for business school. After serving as secretary to Mr William Holmes Cochran at Byram High School, she worked for the Mississippi Department of Employment Security Commission until retirement.
Her life will be celebrated at Fondren Church in Jackson, on Saturday, August 26 with Robert Green officiating. Visitation will begin at 11:00am, with the service following at 12.
